I need some advice.
A 60-year-old male has stage 3 kidney failure, type 2 diabetes, COPD, cardiovascular issues, and neuropathy. He jokes about being the "walking dead". He is battling, at present, with sugars, chronic constipation, and sleep deprivation. On a no sugar and very low carb diet with plenty of fluids and fiber. He is concerned with herbs that might push him higher into kidney failure or heart failure. He has tried "Sleep Ease", melatonin, benfotiamine, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
What are some suggestions?

It is never to late, for someone to live "their best life" but you need to meet them "where they are" on their health journey. The client must want to "put in the work".

Look into the work of Dr. Jason Fung. He has been treating DM2 patients with kidney failure for years with fasting. His company site is, but you can find his book or interviews online.

If he is taking DM2 meds he should not be using cinnamon as this can interact same with herbs that lower BP and BP meds.

Food based "herbs" may be best for clients on allopathic medications. Most clients are not taking a therapeutic amount of herbs. The clinical trials for turmeric/black pepper have patients taking at least 500 mg three times a day.

Has the "chronic constipation" been evaluated for "IBS with constipation", which can be treated. Fish oils can help with all of the above.

Best of luck.

Sounds like a consult case. We'd have to dig in and know what meds he's on etc...
