This appeared in my flower pots, but it grows wild in dry areas around here (Montana) also

That looks a lot like what I have in my front yard. If it is indeed the same thing, then it would be Soapwort, also known as Bouncing Bet. Don't eat it. It's "soap". Great for doing laundry, or washing your dog, or for making organic body wash. :)
