My name is Laura. I have been interested in herbal and what is known as "alternative" medicine for many years. During my first marriage, I had 6 wonderful kids and 20 years of serious financial difficulty. Paying a doctor and then a pharmacist was impossible most of the time. Fortunately, I had friends who suggested some weird folk remedies that actually helped. I also have a child who is a cancer survivor (Stage 3 Neuroblastoma diagnosed at age 7 months). She did have surgery and 5 rounds of chemo but the doctor had no real hope for a good outcome while also discounting everything alternative. I took her to what was the Livingston Wheeler clinic anyway and they used immunotherapy, supplements, and a macrobiotic diet that was at the time thought to be hocus-pocus. I also was introduced to energy work which I still believe is very important to understand although I am not a practitioner. While divorced, I went to nursing school and remarried just before graduating. I spent a year working pediatric oncology and the last 12 years in the local ER. This has been a very interesting experience. I have always been fascinated by the sciences and enjoyed all that I learned. I did well and thought that I had somehow arrived. I am an ER nurse and where else could one go to learn all that is necessary to treat and cure whatever can get thrown at ya than the ER as a nurse? It was quite the E-ticket ride (old people get that). I learned a ton and I still do. However, I also became very distressed by some treatment practices both in the ER and oncology. I know that modern medicine has produced many an amazing outcome and it is miraculous what can be done to save lives in catastrophic situations. I am happy to be a part of that side of medicine. I am also reminded constantly of the pitfalls of modern medicine. I push morphine like it is candy to people playing on cell phones and add 2 more take-home prescriptions to the lists of 20+ that patients already have and wouldn't need if we could think outside of the pharmaceutical box. Over the years, I see all of those people getting sicker, not better. I am feeling morally conflicted and felt driven to cut down to PRN status and semi-retire while keeping up in the field but also digging deep into herbs and energy work (don't tell my coworkers). I need this to help my family in a more productive way when they call for medical advice. I am very much enjoying the classes. I am also involved in the Dr Christopher courses which I enjoy but these classes are much easier to understand and grasp with my background.

We call it TRADITIONAL medicine here. This is the ORIGINAL way of treating folks for what ails them.

Welcome to the world of HEALING. It is a fancy dance to be on both sides of the fence. We are glad you like Doc Jones' way of teaching. Let us know if there is anything we can do to improve the experience.

Thank you for the correction. I appreciate knowing as much about traditional medicine as possible. So, I assume that modern medicine is what you call the other stuff. I have long heard traditional medicine called everything derogatory but became a quick believer when it offered cures that doctors didn't have. Now I advocate for traditional medicine even in the hospital when I work but only with those who might be receptive. I'm trying to be bolder but need to really know what I am talking about first. I have a lot of questions about treating various illnesses and hope that it is okay to ask them while I try to learn the mechanics of herbal treatments.

Ask away but FIRST do a search of the site to see if someone has already started something about it.
